Autistic Ferns is thus not merely another Materia medica of a group of plants. It brings our healing art to another level, where we are delving deeper and deeper into the nature of our very existence, what it means to be human, and what it means to be healed.

Yet, we also carry within us the remnants of previous times, of past generations and past lives, of traumas which have not been integrated and healed. Human history is fraught with the traumas of wartime and of privation of all sorts; these remain deeply embedded in our subconscious, yet they can determine to a large extent our behaviour and our health. In such situations it is a matter of survival, fitting into the group at all costs, following the rules at the expense of one's personal integrity. There is little or no opportunity to develop the more subtle aspects of our nature, such as fine arts and self-reflection - these qualities belong more to the Silver and Lanthanide series. One can become estranged from oneself, and ultimately estranged from others as well, as the ground for true communication is lacking.

The many cases illustrate the possibilities of the ferns in homeopathy, and this part of the Plant theory map gives us another part of the plant road map for solving our most intractable cases. The humble ferns will never be the same for me!  — Deborah Collins

Ferns are symbolical for unconscious patterns which have to do with unnatural adaptation to rules and order in our lives stemming from our childhood traumas we all have experienced. Even inter-generational patterns may lead to a Fern-remedy.

Although Ferns originally seemed to be very typically indicated for autistic children, it gradually turned out that Ferns are also very specific for unconscious parts of our psyche. In that sense everybody may need a Fern sooner or later… — Pieter Kuiper
